My top 10 personal musical highlights and Glastonbury experiences in 2008

Count down to the top 5! :

5. Vampire Weekend:They are so much fun and so danceable to that we went to see them not once but twice during the Glastonbury weekend. Listened to their cd yesterday. Still loving it! If you like indie with melodies try this one out!

4. Strolls around the festival: There are so many wondrous people and places at Glastonbury – I cannot claim to have seen them all. The ones I saw this time that left an impression were: The view tower, the circus fields, the acoustic stage, the meditation tent with the silently meditating people inside, the stone circle and the view tower.

3. Seasick Steve: The hobo bro made me laugh so much! He brought this girl on stage – in his words: “To represent all ya girls at Glastonbury!” He played a 1, 3 and 6 string guitars and his stories of his life were very entertaining – if you get a chance go and see him! Another (un-precise) quote: “This is a new song from my new album that is coming out in … so I am going to try and play it real good for ya guys!” Same as Leonard Cohen, Seasick Steve was very appreciative of his audience and seemed visibly moved by the good reception he got.

2. My friends: Only JUST beaten by the incredibly emotional experience that Leonard Cohen delivered are my Glastonbury companions – the best bunch imaginable! Through both shared suffering and delight! ;)

1. Leonard Cohen: The Canadian singer/songwriter literally moved me to tears. Not just with the widely mentioned rendition of Hallelujah, but also with So long Marianne, Suzanne and especially the Tower of Song. What moving lyrics! He referred to his audience as “my friends” and “angels born of the mud”. What an absolute legend!
